New Award For Dairy Secretaries

(Special) AUCKLAND. This Day. Few changes in the previous agreement were made in the Northern industrial district dairy companies' secretaries award issued by Mr Justice Tyndall in the Arbitration Court yesterday. The new award takes effect from July 7. The award, which covers 53 dairy companies in the Auckland Province, makes no alteration to the scale of salaries except to recognise the need for additional payment to secretaries whose employers have interests other than the sale of butter and/or cheese, such as general trading, motor vehicle repairing, sale cf motor spirits, transport, insurance, and other activities, and where additional work is placed on the secretaries because of them.

His Honor said that owing to the wide difference in the nature and extent of these activities which were reflected in the varying additional responsibilities of secretaries, the court found it impossible with the limited information available to it either to determine the amount of extra remuneration which should be paid to each secretary or to fix a basis for genera) application. The extra amount should be a mat-i ter for negotiation. Any secretary using his own car for i his business shall be paid a rate for! its use of 6d a mile. Provision is also made that any secretary who has had more than ID years’ continuous service with a company should have three weeks’ holiday per annum.
