Little Benefit To Auckland People

(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. The 5 per cent increase in electricity allocations will be of little benefit to consumers in the (Auckland and Waitemata Power Board’s districts. The use of radiators and other forms of heating in commercial premises in the Auckland board’s area will be allowed bdween 8 q.m. and noon on week days, with a limit of 50 per cent of last year’s consumption. Central heating systems may be used between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.. while permanently-installed heaters in commercial buildings, halls and churches may be turned on from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. While radiators in the Waitemata board’s district may now be used between 7.15 and 10 p.m., the existing cuts from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. will be extended from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. ■\The coldest weather of the winter was still to come, and this itself would increase the load by more than 5 per cent, said the general manager of ’the Waitemata board (Mr A. Main) in explaining the limited concessions. It was also necessary to protect the large egg-incubating load which would come on next month. Lakes Rising

With increased falls of rain in the centre of the North Island the levels of Lakes Taupo and Waikaremoar.a, the two main • water storage areas for the hydro-electric stations, are continuing to rise. Taupo yesterday morning was up to 1173.95 ft above sea-level, a rise compared with the previous day of 0.15 ft, while Waikaremoana, where the rainfall since Saturday has been well over 2in, rose by o.sft to 2000.6 ft yesterday.
