Mr C. G. Pryor, new district telegraph engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department. Whangarei, has taken up his duties. Mr Pryor, who has been transferred from Napier, replaces Mr G. W. Gilchrist, who has been transferred to Napier. Mr J. T. Martin, of Wellington, has been presented with the Royal Order of Vasa as a tribute to his 20 years’ service to Sweden as honorary consul in the Dominion. The United States Minister to Ne\v Zealand (Mr Avra M. Warren) will leave Auckland by air on July 15 en route for San Francisco, whence he will proceed direct to Washngton. The Minister, who will join Mrs Warren in Virginia, will spend three months’ leave in the United States. For valuable services in the air. Flight Lieutenant F. E. Gatland. D.F.M., of Great South Road, Drury, has been mentioned in despatches. Advice of this has been received by Air Department, Wellington. The professor of economics at Auckland University College, Professor C G. F. Simkin, has been awarded a Social Science Fellowship for 1948 by the Rockefeller Foundation, tenable at Nuffield College, Oxford University Professor Simkin took up his appointment in Auckland at the beginning oi last year after being senior lecturer in economics at Canterbury College.
