Canadian Candies To Conquer Cuts
(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day. Difficulties of obtaining paraffin wax supplies from overseas had resulted in such an acute shortage of candles in New Zealand that it had been necessary to allow the importation of supplies from Canada to meet the present extraordinary demand during power black-outs. The Minister of Supply (Mr Nordmeyer) announced this last night.
Candle manufacturers had been unable to maintain normal production for months and one company had been temporarily obliged to cease operations altogether, he said. The first shipments of Canadian candles would arrive within the next few weeks.
A further shipment of wax waS due within a few days and this would allow local candle manufacturers to carry on for some time.
