Predict U.S. Slump
(1.10 p.m.) LONDON", June 13. A group of businessmen, economists and civil servants, under the title of “PEP” (Political and Economic Planning), has issued a warning of a possible American slump, perhaps before the end of 1949.
The report says: “America's problem arises from the danger of overproduction, leading to mass unemployment, which only drastic redistribution of the national income in favour of those in the lowest income groups can solve.”
The group’s conclusion is that if a slump comes it is likely to be short and sharp.
