Bus Stop Elimination
Elimination of the bus slop opposite the post office was approved by the Whangarei Borough Council last night. A sub-committee considered that the stop should be eliminated between 4.30 and 6 p.m., but the traffic and transport committee recommended that the stop should be discontinued altogether. This recommendation was adopted. Cr S. J. Snow considered that this action would result in a saving of lives, while the Mayor (Mr W. Jones) opposed it, stating that he could see no reason for eliminating the stop, except that the bus stand would have to be kept clear of cars.
