NZ Workers Asked To Assist Basques

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Trade unions are being circularised by the New Zealand Federation of Labour and asked to make financial contributions for workers in the Basque country of Spain, who are fighting against the Franco regime. Financial aid is sought particularly for those who took part in the recent strikes in the Basque country. This announcement was made by the Secretary of the Federation (Mr K. Baxter) at the annual conference yesterday when commenting on a passage in the annual report dealing with wool for Spain. The annual conference of the federation during its four-day sitting will consider 189 remits. The remits have been grouped under eight main headings and eight committees have been set up to consider them and report back to the full conference.

Main interest centres on remits dealing with stabilisation and price control.
