Hollows In Fine Form; City Beals Kamo

LEAGUE

In a bright game, where good tackling and the aggressive spirit were manifest. City beat Kamo by 14 points to five in the Rugby League match at Jubilee Park on Saturday.

Play had not been in progress five minutes when Kamo scored its fii'st try. Completing a smart passing; run, half-back H. Lennie threw the ball to J. Goodhue, who took it over for a try and then converted, making the score: Kdmo 5, City 0. A real menace to City was slight, but swift, Moses, whose tackling was “deadly." Moses was always there to stop a City advance and, using wrestling tactics, flying tackles and dumps, he dashed the hopes of many a wouldbe scorer.

Another good tackier for Kamo was G. Brandso. Once he got the ball he hurtled through his opponents like a runaway motor-cycle and he took a lot of stopping.

City’s first try was scored by R. Hollows after the ball had passed along City’s back-line. Hollows took* the ball over after he had baffled Kamo with his usual swerving run. Hollows, who with Payne has been selected in the Kiwi trials, was in fine form.

Another try for City by C. Pearce brought the half-time score to: City G, Kamo 5.

A few minutes after play had resumed, V. Payne I City), who had been playing exceptionally well and was last man down in the scrum, sprained his ankle and had to be assisted off the field.

TYPICAL RUN City piled on the points in the second half. A try by Stringfellow was followed by another typical run by Hollows, who raced from inside his own half and added another three points to City’s total. L. Donaldson converted.

At this stage Kamo began to tire badly. Kamo had been more aggressive than its heavier opponents. Hollows made another attempt to crash through Kamo's defence, but was tackled on the side-line by two Kamo players. They were so winded after this that the game was held up for a while until they recovered. Neither side scored further points, leaving City victorious, 14—5. Junior

In a junior match. Portland beat City by five points to nil, after a hard and fast game. During most of the second half, Portland bottled City on its own 25yd line and only excellent defence by City kept the score so low . Results At A Glance . . .

SENIOR City 14 (tries by R. I-lollows (2), C. Pearce, Stringl'ellow, Donaldson converted) beat Kamo 5 dry by J. Goodinie who converted). JUNIOR Pori land 5 (try by C. Wallbanks, converted by W. Wells) beat City 0.
