Auckland. School Rolls Increase
(Special) AUCKLAND. This Day. An increase of 77 per cent over the 1940 secondary school rolls is shown by the chairman of the Auckland Education Board (Mr G. K. Hamilton! in a report.
Figures taken at the end of the second term lost year are the latest available, and show that besides the rise in the number of pupils attending secondary schools there has been an increase in the pupils at both primary and intermediate schools. The roll numbers at the end of the second term in 1940. Mr Hamilton said, were: Primary, G 3.814; intermediate, 1739; secondary, 3406; total, 68,959. At the same time last year the figures were: Primary. 68,973; intermediate, 4172; secondary, 6049; total, 79,194. Mr Hamilton said the increase in Ihe primary and intermediate schools was 7592, or 11.5 per cent, and that the combined increase of 10,235 represented a rise in roll strengths of 14.7 percent. Mr Hamilton added that the total of primary and intermediate school pupils in the board's area exceeded both that for the rest of the North Island and the entire aggregate for the South Island. The comparative figures at July 1. 1945. were: Auckland. 70,552; rest of North Island. 68,572; South Island. 63,650. DETECTIVE ON THE TRAIL The detective was hot or. the .scent.
