International Day Celebrated
Members of the Whangarei Business and Professional Women's Club met in the YWCA Lounge to celebrate "International Day." A broadcast "International Day" speech given from Christchurch by Miss Daphne Chapman. Dominion president was listened to. Miss J. Livingston, club president, read a message cabled from Dr Lena Madesin Phillips, world president. The candle-lighting ceremony followed. Lighted candles represented the international federation of the 31 federations which have functioned throughout, while the unlighted candles represented those federations which, through war conditions have not functioned for some years. The countries Poland, Austria, and Czechoslovakia were this year lighted again as their Business and Professional clubs again function. “ACTION,” N.Z.'s brightly written monthly magazine, including topical articles of our native land.
