inspections Costs An increase in the payment made by the council to the Health Department for the services of a health inspector for the county was sought by the department in a letter to the Whangarei County Council. The letter stated that the present arrangement was made some years ago when costs and the population served were lower. Today £735 was required yearly to maintain an inspector.

*On a population basis, the cost to the council for the services now rendered by the department was £341 14/11, instead of the £l5O now paid. The department sought a revision of the payment as from April 1. ‘•The £341/14 11 mentioned is out ofi all proportion to the services rendered," said the cleric (Mr 11. C. Hemphill). “END AGREEMENT” Under the Health Act, 1940, it was necessary to give one year's notice before the termination of an agreement. Mr Hemphill suggested that the agreement with the Health Department should be ended. In the interim 12 months the council would have the opportunity to consider the matter. “I am sure that the council could deal with the matter much more economically." contended the chairman (Mr J. Morrison). It was decided to adopt a motion on the lines suggested by the clerk. "This is the day of getting big sal- ! aries for doing very little work,” comj merited Cr J. Scott-Davidson. Lamb Schedule (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board advises that the lamb schedule in the North Island will be increased by id per lb as from Monday, March 17. The increase is accounted for by increased wool growth.
