Alterations To Minister’s Itinerary

Some minor alterations have been made to the original itinerary of the Minister of Lands'and Commissioner of State Forests (Mr Skinner), who is expected to arrive at Whangarei this afternoon.

Leaving Auckland at 9.30 this morning. Mr Skinner met deputations at Warkworth on the first part of his Northland visit. He is booked in at the Settlers’ Hotel this evennig and tomorrow morning is to meet the committee of Hikurangi Swamp settlers regarding the drainage of the swamp. It is anticipated that he will visit different parts of the area and representations will be fnade to him by the committee, which is seeking the implementation of a complete drainage scheme. The Minister will then travel to Waitangi, and later in the day will inspect the experimental farm at Kapiro. He will also meet Te Pua settlers on their farms in the Omapere area. It was previously understood that these farmers wuld be met at Kaikohe.

On Wednesday Mr Skinner will leave Kaikohe for Kaitaia and he will travel to Opononi to spend the evening there.

He will inspect the Waipoua Forest on Thursday when he will be met by representatives of various local bodies and other organisations interested in the Waipoua controversy. The Minister will be at the Central Hotel, Dargaville, on Thursday night, and he will discuss drought relief questions with the local branch of the RSA.

The return trip to Auckland will be made on Friday, and Mr Skinner is to leave Auckland that evening by train for Wellington.
