Cannot Interfere With Press Freedom
(Rec. 12.30 p.m.) PARIS. Mar. 7. The French Premier (M. Ramadier) told the French National Assembly that the Government could not interfere with the three-weeks’-old newspaper strike. The Press was not a public service, and intervention would mean interfering with the freedom of the Press M. Ramadier, however, appealed to printers to reach a settlement to enable French people to follow important current events and voice opinion on such issues as confronted the Foreign Ministers at Moscow.
