Boxers Morphy, Jones Suspended
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Bos Murphy, the New Zealand professional boxer, has had his licence suspended. That of his American negro opponent in two recent fights staged by the Hutt Valley Boxing Association, has been revoked. Jones was scheduled to meet C. Hanham in Hastings next Saturday, but it is understood that during the past few days ho has been seeking a return passage to the United States. The actions are the result of investigations being made by the New Zealand Boxing Council, which issued the 'ollowing statement last night: "The council met this evening to further its invesiigations into boxing contests held under the control of the Hutt Valley Boxing Association. The council had called on Bos Muiphv to attend ihe meeting, but Murphy conveyed through his solicitor his refusal to do so. The council has suspended his licence and is continuing its investigations-.
‘■On certain admissions made bv Wi'i.'c- Jonas.” the statement added, "his licence has been revoked.” No statement of the scope of the council’s investigations into recent contests has been published, but it is understood to be concerned with purses permitted by the council, and with other matters connected with bouts which have been the subject cf rumour in Wellington and in boxing circles throughout New Zealand.
