Extending Scouting Activities In North
(Special) . KAITAIA, This Day. BOY Scout activities in the Kaitaia district are to lie extended as the result of an officers’ visit on Thursday night.
Commissioner Aldrich, of Unworn, who is Dominion Commissioner of Training, and the Northland District Commissioner (Mr P. W. Hill, of Dargavillei addressed a meeting which packed the Methodist Hall. Almost the full strength of 75 scouts and cubs attended, together with numerous parents and local committee members. The appointment was announced by Mr L. G. Thompson, formerly Kaitaia district committee chairman, as Commissioner for Mangonui County. Addressing the boys. Commissioner Aldrich reminded them that they were part of a worldwide organisation which in 35 years had grown from a membership of only eight to more than 5.000.000 today. He commended Kaitaia scouting supporters for their keen interest in the
welfare of the movement and asked them for continued support. An immediate effect of the visit will be formation of a new troop at Awanui. and establishment of a Kaitaia sub-troop at Piikepoto. Hopes to establish another troop in at legist one other centre are also held. The visitors were later entertained to simper at the home of Scoutmaster lthys C. Williams, when an informal 'discussion with troop officers and committee members took place.
