8500 Head At Punikatere

One of the largest stock sales to be held in Northland for many years took place at Punikatere, Kaikohe, on Wednesday when approximately 7446 Romney sheep and 1005 Polled Angus cattle were offered at a clearing sale held on account of Mrs E. M. McIntyre of ‘iKohatukaka" station.

The sale attracted an exceptionally large bench of buyers from districts as far south as liuntly. The auctioneers were Dalgety and Co. Ltd., the North Auckland Farmers’ Coop. Ltd., and Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd. Competition was particularly keen and the stock—both sheep and cattle — came forward in good condition. Individual lines offered were naturally very large and a line of 700 ewes i.~ believed to constitute a record for Northland.

The bidding for the cattle was brisk although values were perhaps easier than those for sheep.

The offering of 40 broken and unbroken horses sold under keen competition and changed hands at prices in advance of expectations.

Quotations wore: 2, 4 and 6-tooih wethers. £l/6/9 to £l/9/3; 2-tooth ewes. £l/14/4 to £l/15/3; 4-tootii owes. £l/15/6 to £l/16/8; 6-toolh ewes, £l/15/2; 4-year ewes, £l/8/4: 5-year ewes, £l/5/3; 6-year ewes, £l/3/1; shorn owe lambs, 18/- to £l/1/4; shorn wether lambs, 16/- to £l/1/3; gcod woolly lambs. £1 to £l/2/-;

Kamo Rates Rates representing 99.2 per cent of the amount struck have been collected by the Kamo Town Board. Last year a 100 per cent collection was made. Of the £663/10/6 general rate struck, £6658/6/9 has been collected. Ratepayers have paid £3BO/8/9 of the hospital rate of £383/8/9 and £3l/8/9 of the £3l/13/9.
