Col. Clifton To Head Army School
<p.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Colonel G. H. Clifton, D.S.C., M.C., takes over the appointment of Commandant of the Army School of Instruction this week.
He recently returned from Japan where he held an appointment of a brigadier on the General Staff at BCOF headquarters. Colonel Clifton, who is a graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon. saw service in 1920 on the North-West Frontier and Waziristan, where he was awarded the M.C. He went overseas with the 2nd NZEF in May, 1940, and commanded an infantry brigade in North Africa. He was taken prisoner at El Alamein.
He was awarded the DSO for the Greek campaign and a bar for service in the Western Desert. He won a second bar for escaping from a prisoner-of-war camp in Germany.
