Ex-Manager Sent For Trial
At the conclusion of a three-day hearing, Samuel James Wood, 53, company director, and formerly manager of the Hikurangi Coop Dairy Co. Ltd., was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for trial on April 29. Wood was charged in the Whangarei Court on 12 counts of theft of property of the company involving a total of £386/0/6. After hearing submissions for the defence the magistrate . (Mr W. C. Harley) dismissed three charges relating to an electric stove, transmission belting and a vat of a total value of £127/10/8. He committed Wood, who pleaded not guilty, for trial on the remaining nine charges involving property valued at £258/9/10. Mr R. K. Trimmer applied for bail, Detective-Sergeant J. B. Finlay, for the prosecution, raising no objection. Bail was fixed at £250 in Wood’s own recognisance with one surety of £250.
