OBITUARY

Mrs A. E. Fisher

Mrs Janet Graham Fisher, of Haronui Street, Whangarei, whose death occurred on February 22, was a daughter of the late Mr J. B. Ross and Mrs M. C. Ross, of Whangarei. Born in Scotland 36 years ago sne came to New Zealand with her parents at an early, age and received her secondary education at the Southland and Otago Girls’ High Schools. She matriculated at the age of 15 and later attended Otago University where she graduated B.A. in 1929, and took the Master of Arts degree the following year, her university course being distinguished by her proficiency in economics. While at ’Varsity she represented Otago University in the A hockey team. Taking up the teaching profession as a career, she served under the Auckland Education Board at Whangarei, Waitakaruru and Tangowahine and was infant mistress at Hukerenui and Otaika, which latter position she left 10 years ago to marry Mr A. E. Fisher, of Whangarei. Mrs Fisher took a deep interest i r education and carried the method and knowledge gained by her training into all her school work, whilst her ideals found expression in devoted and loyal service to th'e pupils who came under her charge. Eesides her husband and her mother, she is survived by a daughter Jean, aged seven, a sister, Mrs A. K Williams, of Gorrie’s Road. Whangarei, and a brother, Mr A. B. Rdss,' of Dargaville.

• LONDON. Feb. 27. Harold Norman Gldham, the repertory actor who was wourtded by a dagger while playing the part of Macbeth at the end of January, died in Cldham Infirmary.
