SWIMMING

I (Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. Three Northland competitors gained places in the swimming championships held in the Newmarket Olympic Pool at Auckland last night. The championships will be concluded tonight, when several of the principal events will be contested. In tlic senior events R. Rice, of Whangarci. gained third place in the second heat of the men's freestyle over 220yds.

C. Taylor, of Whangarei, came third in the boys' intermediate breaststroke. 220yds.

In the girls' junior freestyle, 50yds. Miss W. Griffin, of Kaikohe, was first. Miss Griffin won by three yards and her time was 31 2-ss. •

Swimming CSub Night

Competition was keen at the Whangarei Swimming Club's weekly club night held last night. Good times were registered. In a water polo event, Central narrowly defeated Old Boys by two goals to one. Results of other events were:
