Treaty Ceremony At Waitangi

The signing of the Treaty of Waitangi will be commemorated at Waitangi on February 6, when the Union •Jack will be hoisted on the new 100 ft flagstaff which was erected by the Royal New Zealand Navy last year. The Navy has drawn up a programme, and members of the Navy, Army and Air Force will attend the commemoration ceremony.

Among those present wili be the First Member of the Naval Eoard and Chief of the Naval Staff (Commodore G. H. Faulkner, R.N.) and the naval officer in charge at Auckland (Captain C. R. V. Pugh. R.N.). They will travel to Waitangi in the corvette Arbutus, and others will arrive in two naval launches. A Catalina aircraft will fly the Royal Marino band of the cruiser Bellona to the ceremony.

At four o’clock on the afternoon of February 5 the two launches will leave Aucklan a and will arrive off Waitangi at six the following morning'. Commodore Faulkner and Captain Pugh, accompanied by ether officers and representatives of' the Sea Scouts and Sea Cadets, will leave the Naval Base in the Arbutus at 7.15 p.m. on February 5. and will arrive off’ Waitangi at eight o’clock the following morning.

The band will leave on February 6 in time to arrive at Waitangi at 9.30 a.m.

GUARD OF HONOUR

The Commodore will inspect a naval guard of honbur at the saluting position, after which the flag-hoisting ceremony will take place. Commodore Faulkner, Captain Pugh and other officers will visit the treaty house, and Commodore Faulkner will later fly to Auckland in a Catalina. Other members of the party will also visit the treaty house and Paihia, and the Arbutus will be open to visitors.

The ship will go to Russell the following day, ana on February 8 will act as flagship to the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron regatta at Kawau Island.

The ship will return to Auckland the next afternoon.
