Admits Theft Of Coat Worth £525
(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day. A Wellington labourer, Leslie Scott, 32, pleaded guilty to the tiieft cf a mink coat valued at £525, the property of Elizabeth Ann Berryman, of Oriental Parade. Scott was committed to the Supreme Court lor sentence Evidence was given by the police that accused had stayed in a room in Vivian Street up to December 30. He disappeared and the owner of the premises informed the police, who searched the room. On January G, Sergeant A. Banks stated he had found the ccat, which he identified, in a case under the bed in the room. Also in the case were a picture of accused and a bank book ancl a man's coat, said Detective P. W. Harkness. Accused had identified the case, the photo, the bank book and the man's coat as his own. When csked if he knew anything about the mink coat, and whether he had occupied the room in 122 A Vivian Street, accused had said: ‘T know nothing about it. lam net going to answer any questions."
