Final Survey Flight On North Air Route

A FINAL survey flight over the air route for the New Zealand National Airways Corporation’s Northland air service is to be made tomorrow.

An Electra plane will leave Palmerston North at 15.30 a.m. for Gisborne, Tauranga. Mangere, Onerahi. Kaikohe and Kaitaia, calling at each aerodrome.

Piloting the plane is Captain A. G. Gerrard and with him arc seven other pilots who will familiarise themselves with the route.

North-bound bookings are controlled from Auckland, and southbound bookings from Kaitaia, the intermediate stations at Whangarei and Kaikohe notifying their booking and requirements.

Also on board the plane wjll be four members of Iho corporation’s executive staff

In Whangarci bookings have been steady. Intending passengers have made reservations which extend up to six weeks, although capacity for that period has not been reached. The scheduled times for the service are:—Arrive Whangarei. 10.45 a.m.. depart 10.55 a.m.; arrive Kaikohe, 11.20 a m., depart 11.30 am.; arrive‘Kaitaia. 11.55 a.m, depart on return south, 12.10 p.m.; arrive Kaikohe, 12.85 p.m.. depart 12.45 p.m.; arrive Whangarei. 1.10 p.m.. depart 1.20 p.m. Fares are on the single-trip basis and have been fixed as follows: —

The Electra will refuel at Gisborne Mangere and Kaitaia.

From Kaitaia the plane will return, flying over the same route, and arriving at Onerahi at 1.10 p.m. Leaving Onerahi at 1.20 p.m. ihe plane will continue south and is timed to reach Palmerston North tit 0.10 p.m. A regular service over these routes will be started on Monday.

FULL DRESS REHEARSAL Tomorrow's survey flight will be a full dress rehearsal lor the regular service. All phases of the organisation, including' booking and airport management will be checked. Bookings for the Northland service are at the offices of the airport agents —Union Steam Ship Co.. Ltd.. at Auckland. Mr R. R. Roseman. Whangarei, Mr V. F. Cracknell. Kaikohe. and Mr L. G. Thompson. Kaitaia. All formalities, including weighing, have to be completed at the Northland booking offices as weighing machines arc not yet available at the airports.
