Father Greets Quads
(Rec. 1 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. “Good heavens! Quads!" said the father, Mr Thomas, when he was informed of the birth of his children. No doctor was present at-the birtn because the quadruplets were not expected. Cnly two nurses, both 23 years old, who are staled to be registered midwives, attended the mother. Another young midwife relieved iter colleagues and took charge of the babies immediately they were born. The babies weighed about 21bs each and were two months premature. They were born born 50 minutes after small, slight Mrs Thomas walked into the hospital.
••\V r e had the shock oi our lives," said the nurses.
Four oxygen tents were rushed from a hospital at Bristol to try to keep the quads alive. They are oeing fed on sterilised water and glucose. A medical officer reported that the quads are gaining in strength.
“There is every chance of their survival," be said.
There is only one other set of surviving quadruplets in Britain. The lather of the quadruplets said that during his whole 11 years of married life he. had not had a home of Ins own. At present he is living with a sister-in-law in a small cottage where there are already six adults and four young children. Three of the quadruplets died. The only survivor is the first-born, a girl.
