N.Z. Soldier Qualifies For 'Escaping Club'
(Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 7. A New Zealander, Warrant-Officer Charles Croall, of Hamilton East, who has been awarded the M.8.E., qualifies for membership of the famous “Escaping Club,” says Reuter. The citation reveals that W.O. Croall made six attempts to escape from prisoner-of-war camps in Germany, Poland and Italy.
During the attempts, he once tried to get away in a stolen plane and later jumped from a moving train. “He was a very persistent escaper,” the citation adds.
