UNPRECEDENTED WELL-BEING IF RIGHT COURSE FOUND -Truman
Power to mould the future of the nation lay in the joint hands of Congress and the President, said President Truman today when addressing Congress on the state of the Union. If the right course were found and resolutely and courageously taken, in spite of all difficulties, a state of well-being unprecedented in history could be achieved. It was the first occasion in 27 years on which a Democratic President had addressed a Congress in- which the Republicans were in a majority.
“If we continue to work with other nations earnestly', patiently and wisely.” Mr Truman added, “we can—granting a will for peace on the part of our neighbours-—make a lasting peace."
