Methodist Pioneers Remembered

The first service to be held in the Methodist Octagonal Chapel since its re-opening on April 13. after its removal from the Oruaiti Valley to Whangarei. took place yesterday morning. The large congregation was representative of many old Northland families. pioneers not only in the gi’eat task of settlement, but in the establishment ot the Methodist Church. The Mayor and Mayoress of Whangarei (Mr and Mrs W. Jones) were present.

The preacher was the Rev. George Brown, whose address had as its theme the early history of the church in Northland and the magnificent contribution made to posterity by the men and women of 80 to 100 years ago.

At the close of the first service, Communion was held. A morning service will take place in the Chapel on the first Sunday in each month.
