i Special) KAIKCHE. This Day. Delegates representing the six Northland hospital boards met in conference in the Masonic Hall. Kaikohe. today, at the invitation of the Whangarei Hospital Board to discuss various aspects of specialist medical services. The chairman of the Bay of Islands board (Mr G. H. McKenzie' was elected tc preside. The first speaker (Mr J. A. S. MacKavt chairman of the Whangarei board, put forward what he described as proposals from Whangarei involving the joint appointment by the boards of an ear. nose and throat specialist and the possible appointment, at a future date, of a fully qualified radiologist and orthopaedic specialist and an eye specialist. Most of the delegates, with the exception of Whangarei. recognised the need for waiting until the Minister for Health (Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer) arrived l in Northland at the end of March, bei fore making any decisions regarding ! the appointment of specialists, other than for tuberculosis. REPLACEMENT OF BR lIINDS

Agreement was general on the pressing need to provide a T.B. consultant service to replace that provided by Dr J. R. Hinds, on loan from live Auckland Hospital Board, who is to be withdrawn in the near future. Ways and means of replacing Dr Hinds were discussed.
