Reports About Russia False, Dean Says

(Rec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, January 4. Strongly attacking rumours of Russian cruelty and misbehaviour, the Dean of Canterbury, in a speech, said: “They are not perfect; far from it. But nor are we. The Russians looted, but so did we.”

The Dean added that he had proof that reports of Russian persecution of thousands of refugees were wholly false. He said he had seen no sign of hostility towards the Church throughout Russia.

The refusal to give Russia the secret of the atomic' bomb was one of the greatest causes of suspicion between Russia and Britain and America.
