Victoria College May Limit Students

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day.

The entry of students to Victoria University College may be limited this year.

The Principal (Sir Thomas Hunter) said that in science classes and in some art courses there was a prospect of more students enrolling than the college could accommodate. Preparations had been made to cope with this situation and there was a possibility that Victoria College, in common with other university colieges, would be obliged to select its students in some courses for the 1946 session.

Sir Thomas said a decision in any selection would depend on several factors.

PREFERENCE TO RETURNED MEN In the first instance, the College Council had decided to give preference to returned men, and consideration, would next be given those other applicants for enrolment who were best qualified for the courses they proposed to take.

Until matriculation results were published towards the end of this month it would not be known how many students would seek admission. Sir Thomas added the university colleges were restricted by lack of funds and accommodation and there was no immediate prospect of getting urgently-needed buildings.

Something new in wedding presents! Amongst the gifts received by a young Auckland couple the oth,er day was a three-pound tin of the famous cigarette tobacco, Riverhead Gold, and as both the bride and groom love a whiff, this very unconventional bridal offering was highly appreciated by them. Of the ordinary stereotyped wedding gifts there was no lack, and duplicates were as numerous as usual on these occasions. The big tin of “Riverhead" occupied a prominent place amongst the other things and attracted much attention. The donor ,of the tobacco has set an example well worthy of imitation. His present was one that any “happv pair” would be sure to welcome/ Riverhead Gold, it is scarcely necessary to add, is the leading cigarette tobacco, another famous cigarette brand being Desert Gold, while for the pipe smoker the three blends, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Cavendish and Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), are also universal favourites. You’ll find them on sale wherever you go. a convincing proof of their popularity. All toasted, and no sore throat, no cough! 608
