Speculates On Change To Atomic Age Navy

(Rec 2.35 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 20. A change from the present navy to an atomic age navy would be as great as that from sail to steam. This belief was expressed by the Third Sea Lord (Rear-Admiral C. S. Daniel) in a speech at the launching "of a Tiger class cruiser. He added that there was nothing more, expensive than an obslete navy, but construction would necessarily be on a small scale in the next two or three years. “We have entered the atomic era which will most certainly have a farreaching effect on naval' construction,” he added. “I believe we shall find one day that we are in a position to start on.a radically new naval construction programme.”
