FABRICATED REPORTS ABOUT BRITISH TREATMENT OF JEWS

(Rec. 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 20. Criticism abroad about the treatment of Jewish people in the British zone in Germany was unjustified and deliberately fabricated, said the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Mr J. B. Hynd) in the House of Commons. A relatively small proportion of Jews remained in the British zone. ' received the same treatment as other displaced people and had priority over the Gtrmaii population. Their scale of rationing was above that which the Germans received.

Mr Hynd denied that people had been placed in Belsen. This camp had been destroyed. The fact was that about 9500 Jews were accommodated in brick barracks formerly occupied by members of the S.S. This was now run by the British Red Cross.
