John Amery Hanged At Wandsworth Gaol

LONDON, Dec. 20,

John Amery was hanged at Wandsworth Prison by Albert Pierrepont, who recently returned from the execution of Belsen war criminals in Germany.

A man and woman waited in a motor-car outside the prison for several hours before the execution.

The man was believed to be Captain Julian Amery, who had an interview with his brother last night. The woman was in tears. Neither would give any indication of their identity or the reason for their vigil.

The ringing of a distant church bell was the only intimation to the couple that the hour for the execution had struck. They had their car parked in the avenue facing away from the prison gates and drove away after the formal notice of the execution was posted on the gates at 9.15 a.m. The only other spectators who had waited in the drizzling rain were several soldiers and a group of workmen.
