Duties Of Transport Committee Defined

The duties of the newly-appointed transport committee of the Whangarei Borough Council were defined at a special meeting of the council last night. Reporting to the council the town clerk (Mr L. O. Hall) recommended that these duties should be as follows: “In addition to ihe duties referred to it by tire council, the transport committee may make such recommendations to the council as it thinks fit for all or any of the following purposes—“(a) The good rule and government of all traffic in the borough. “(b) The more effectual carrying-out in the borough, of any of the objects of ihe traffic regulations and traffic bylaws.

“(c) Appointing stands for the use of any vehicles and limiting the use of any such stands to particular persons or any particular class or classes of licensed vehicles.

“(d) Prescribing the route by which and the times when loose horses, cattle, pigs or other animals may be driven along the streets within the borough.” These recommendations were approved by the council and one job referred by the council to the committee was a letter received about the need for repainting in white, the two ends of the bridge in Rust Lane.
