Applications For Electric Ranges Granted

A number of applications for permits to instal electric ranges and hot water services, within the borough area were granted by the Whangarei Borough Council last night, sitting as the supply authority for the area. , This action follows the recent amendment to the Electricity Control Order, which places the responsibility for the granting or declining of such appplications on the supply authority in the area concerned. Some of the applications before the council were three years old and had previously been refused by the electricity controller.

Whence matter was discussed at the council meeting the Mayor (Mr W. Jones) moved that all applications then before the council be approved, with the exception of one, in which more information was required. He said that other supply authorities had been granting permits all the time. Cr S. Oldcorn said that the contiguous supply authority had been putting in all the hot water services for which application had been made. That was a means of bringing down the average charge per unit to consumers, he said.
