Fears Lords May Block Bank Of England Bill
(Rec. 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 19 The House of Commons carried the third reading of the Bank of England Bill by 306 votes to 126. During the third reading the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Dr. Dalton) hinted that he feared the bill might be endangered when considered by the House of Lords. He reserved the right to answer, perhaps at a later date, questions regarding Bank of England reserves.
He warned that in the Lords “there might be a great challenge to the will of the people.”
