Fact Finding For New Rural Power Council
(Special) - KAIKOHE, This Day. In the Bay of Islands County, 41 new high-tension poles, three low-tension poles and 16 service poles were erected in November, according to the monthly report of the consulting engineer (Mr L. Mandeno) to the Bay of Islands Power Board.
Most of the pole erection took place in (he Karetn’ district, between Kawakawa and the Russell highway. Six miles, 72 chains of high-tension lines and 54 chains of low-tension lines were completed. Again, the bulk of this work was in Karetu, but some also was done in Taikerau, Opua and Kerlkerl.
| In Mangonui County, 72 poles were I erected, mostly in the Kohumaru and [ Fern Flat districts, while 20 service lines and five sub-circuits had been run. six miles, seven chains of hightension lines and one mile, 36 chains of low-tension lines were completed. Most of this work was in the Kohu-Imaru-Fern Flat, but some was in Motutangi and Fairburns. For the period November 11 to December 9, sub-station demands in terms of units of power purchased, were: Kaikohe, 519,549; Kaitaia, 426,018. The generating plant at Kerikeri developed 55,520 units. Total was 1,001,082 units.
The following load had been added for the period under review:—New consumers. Bay 20, Mangonui 13, ranges, Bay 9, Mangonui 6; domestic water-heaters, Bhy 4, Mangonui 6; commercial water-heaters, Mangonui 1; dairy water-heaters, Bay 3, Mangonui 2; milking motors, Bay 3, Mangonui 1.
The Public Works Department; had resumed its jieriodic inspection of all lines erected, the report stated. The last inspection took place in November, 1940. The inspector on this occasion, Mr H. Keys, was unable owing to insufficiency of time allotted, to cover more than about half the lines but he expressed satisfaction with those that he had seen.
