Indonesians, Lascars In Demonstration
! SYDNEY. This Day. Demanding money and food, a crowd of about 150 Indonesian and Lascar seamen yesterday held a wild demonstration in the offices of the K.P.M. Line in Sydney. ‘ " ; Ten of the leaders of the demonstration forced their way up the .stairs of the office to the first floor, demanding to see the manager and shouting “Food!” Typists and female clerks screamed hysterically when the- men 'broke through the barrier formed by about ten male members of the staff at the top of the stairs. A glass partition was broken and chairs were raised, but none were .thrown. Police soon arrived : and took the position in hand. Most of the demonstrators wore the red Russian star on the lapels of their coats. The men, who left ships carrying materials to Java, are being fed by sympathetic trade unions.
