The Whangarei County Council is to convey to Mr. W. L. Bell. District Engineer of the Public Works Department, its appreciation of his assistance to the council during his term of office in Northland, and to wish him every success lit his new position in Wellington. Appreciation of the services rendered the Whangarei County Council by Mr T. S. Macintosh who was employed on the office staff during the war was expressed at the meeting of the council yesterday and he was granted six weeks' leave on pay now' that his service with the council has terminated. Among the New Zealand internees in the Sime Road Camp, Singapore, standing by for repatriation is Mr K. L. Bedlington, Whangarei. The death has occurred of Mr George Frederick Clerke, of Mangawhare, aged 67. He came to Northern Wairoa 15 years ago from Manawatu, to take up farming. He served in the first World War. Leave of absence for the remainder of the session was granted to Mr R. Coulter (Govt., Raglan) in the House of Representatives yesterday on account of illness. Mr Coulter is in hospital in Wellington.
