First conference ever held of secondary school boards throughout the Dominion will take place at Wellington on September 20 and 21. The Whangarei High School Board will be represented by the chairman (Mr G. A. Bethel!) and the secretary (Mr R. G. Russell). <: i'fi Agricultural College. The fact that “it was stated at the last meeting of the chamber executive that arrangements were well in hand for the establishment of an agricultural college in Kaikohe” was announced at Tuesday night's meeting of the Kaikohe Chamber of Commerce by the secretary (Mr V. F. Cracknell), reviewing executive activities for the month. * v S--Guinea Pig Club The Canadian Government has handed over to the management of the Queen Victoria Cottage Hospital, East Grimstead, Sussex, all buildings and medical equipment, which they added to the hospital at a cost of 85,000 dollars, for the treatment of burnt airmen. In a recent letter Fly-ing-Officer McCabe, of Whangarei, writes: “I went to the annual dinner of the Guinea Pig Club last week, along with 310 others (former patients of the Queen Victoria Hospital). It was a great experience, which I will describe in detail later.” * * •*:= Senior Scouts Owing to the large number of scouts in the Ist Whangarei Boy Scout troop, it has been necessary to ' form tvvo patrols of senior scouts, which, in time to come, will form the first Rover crew in Whangarei. These boys, all over 15, are doing advanced scout work as training for future Rovers. As well at the weekly troop meetings on Friday night, they hold their own meeting on Monday nights. In this advanced scouting the boys are undergoing a series of lectures from their scoutmaster (Mr. L. Philpott) on the public health and healthyman’s badges. The boys, for recreation purposes, have made their own deck tennis net and ping-pong table. The scouts also have their own medicine ball. These patrols are proving a great success and it should not be long before a full Rover crew is formed in Whangarei.
