New Charges Scale For Town Hall Hire

New scale of charges fGr the use of the Whangarei Town Hall was approved by the Borough Council on Tuesday on the recommendation of- its property committee. The new scale will coni" into force from November 1. The town clerk (Mr. L O. Hall) reported that costs were as follow: —Interest and sinking fund charges. £569; depreciation charges, £183; lighting and electrical repairs. £150; insurance. £ ICO; wages and maintenance, £1200: increased wages charges irom April 1. £100; total cost. £2.302, less rents and cleaning municipal buildings. £1145, leaving £1157. With direct, town hall costs of £289 added, the total was £1446, less rental from lease to picture interests, £325, leaving' net charges of £1124 to be m* t annually. The average hire fees produced per annum. based on returns of the last three years, amounted to £BBS. and to produce £ll2l the present scale of charges should be increased by 26 2-3_ per cent. This amount was equal to 5/4 in the £. The existing schedule of charges, with the proposed charges in parentheses, was: Visiting Entertainments. —For one night. ■£(; (£7/12/-); for two or more nights, on local scale. . Local Entertainments.—Theatrical, vaudeville and general entertainments, £4 (£5/1/4); extra nights, £3 (£3/16/ ); concerts. per night. £3 (£3/16/-); matinee, £2 (£2/10/8); dances, till 1 a.m.. £7 (£B/17/4): limited floor space, until midnight £5 (£6/6/8); extra time, per hour. It;/ '(l2/3); public shows, bazaars, etc, ditv and evening. £3 (£lO/2/8); extra nights. £4 (£5/1/4); lectures, addresses, etc where no charge for admission :s made, per night. £2/10/- (£3/3/4); use of piano (Grand). £l/1/- t £l/6/4); ordinary piano. 7/6 (9/8); fireman, per night, 3/6 (3/6); use of spot tight, per night, less 25 per cent, for local entertainments, £1 (£l/5/4); Sunday evenings for approved meetings, etc., £1 (£l/5/4). .Supper Room lor meetings (by arrangement with town clerk). It was suggested that the scale for two or more nights be deleted. The recommendations were adopted. The question of rebates on charges, many applications for which had been received, had been referred to tile property committee, which recommended that, as [he town hall charges had been set at: the lowest possible figure, no rebate of charges would be granted in future. The recommendation was adopted.
