Notice To Rescind Motion Blocking Power Discussions

The North Auckland Electric Power Board's reply to the Whangarei Borough Council advice of its decision to allow negotiations regarding the proposal to amalgamate the electrical undertakings of the board and council to lapse was received by the council last night. The beard forwarded the following resolution, passed at its meeting on August 9:— “That the letter be received and the borough council be advised that the board sincerely regrets that its actions have been interpreted by the borough council in a manner that was not at any time intended. It is therefore suggested that the reasons advanced by the council are not of sufficient import to warrant the breaking off of negotiations with the board.

“That the council be informed that the preliminary investigations undertaken, at the council’s request, show that some thousands of pounds would be saved by a combination of the two electrical undertakings and in consequence, in the opinion of the board, it is in the interests cf both the borough and the board that the negotiations should be resumed." "This is out of order," said the Mayor i.Mr W. Jones). “Before the council or any councillor can do anything, it will be necessary to give notice of motion to rescind the resolution already passed and forwarded to the power board." “Under the circumstances, I will give notice to move at the next meeting that the motion should be rescinded.” said Cr. S. J. Snow.
