Crippled Children Examined.
At least 19 crippled children travelled from Kaikohe by car to Kawakawa on Monday for examination at the Bay of Islands hospital by a visiting Auckland specialist, under arrangement with the Crippled Children Society, the president of the Kaikohe Chamber of Commerce (Mr W. Stewart) told members last evening. Donors to the recent collection would possibly be surprised to learn that there were so many crippled children in the district, but he had been informed by a district nurse that there were yet more. Travel had proved difficult to arrange in the absence of any ’bus running between Kawakawa and Kaikohe, but. at the last moment motor transport had been generously made available by a local resident, who had had to return unexpectedly from Hokianga to do it.
