Maiden Speech In House
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The maiden speech of Mr R. Walls (Govt., Dunedin. North) was a feature of the Budget debate which was resumed in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Mr Wallet paid warm tribute to the activities, of the forces in their respective theatres cf war and expressed appreciation of achievements of the Works Department during the war years. Ho complimented Mr Semple on the manner in which he promptly brought relief to settlers who suffered in the Otago floods. Mr Walls dealt with a variety ol' present-day matters. He advocated the total prohibition of all footwear imports, closer settlement and more intensive farming. He claimed that the Land Sales Act was a godsend to returned servicemen.
