The King received in audience Sir Patrick Duff on his appointment as United Kingdom High Commissioner in New Zealand, succeeding Sir Harry Batterbee. Included in a party of naval officers who returned to New Zealand on Saturday was Sub-Lieutenant R. L. Bamford, of Kaikohe.
A representative gathering of residents of Horeke met to farewell the head teacher of Horeke School, who has been appointed to Maungakaramea. The vicar of Hokianga (Rev. R. F. Cleave), the chairman of the school committee (Mr A. W. Blundell) and Mr H. Hulme expressed regret at the departure of Mr and Mrs Taylor, who had taken a great interest in the welfare of the district as well as the school. Bouquets were presented to Mrs Taylor and Mrs Taylor, sen'r., and gifts to Mr and Mrs Taylor by the school children. Mr Cleave, on behalf of the residents, presented a cheque as a token of good will from the residents. Mr Taylor, in reply, thanked the school committee and parents for their co-operation during seven years’ residence in Horeke.
