Price Tribunal And University Exam. Fees

This Day The action of the New Zealand University Senate in increasing degree examination fees, which is the subject of a protest by the Cantrbury University College Students’ Association, is under review by the Price Tribunal. In a statement yesterday, the Stabilisation Commission said that a different system was being introduced by the Senate. but that the increase in fees decided uo was undoubtedly too high. The matter had accordingly been referred by the commission to the Price Tribunal, and an early pronouncement could be oxpectThe president of Canterbury Unversitv College Students’ Association (Mr. T EEggleton) said: “With the rapid approach of July 10, the date when the majority of examination fees for t.he 1944 New Zealand University examinations tall clue, student opinion is fully aroused to tne action of the Senate, the governing body of the New Zealand University, m unreasonably increasing fees for annual examinations.” ~ , , , While some justification might be found for the charging of students for each paper instead of each subject, as in the past, it was felt, added Mr. Eggleton. that lhe sum now charged. 17/- per paper, was unduly excessive.
