Discussing Long-Term Purchase Of N.Z. Food
(Special) LONDON. June 27. Long-term purchases by the' United Kingdom of New Zealand’s, exportable foodstuffs covering a period cf four years ahead have been discussed by the Secretary to the Treasury (Mr B. C. Ash win) and the New Zealand Dairy Dairy representative. (Mr George Duncan) with United Kingdom and New Zealand officials at the Ministry for Food. They are acting under the New Zealand Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) and also conferring with British Treasury authorities on those and related financial matters which concern the prices of Now Zealand s imports and exports. It is understood that no further details will he available to the public until Mr Fraser’s return to New Zealand. His visit to London is nowdrawing to a close.
Mr Fraser is filling his remaining few days in London with discussions with a large number of British and United Nations Government and service authorities. He has had talks during the weekend and today with Mr Churchill, the Dominion Secretary (Visount Cranborne), the Soviet Ambassador (M. Gusev), the Polish Premier (M. Mikolajszyk), the Minister for Wax Transport (Lord Leathers), the Belgian Premier (M. Pieriot), the United States Ambassador (Mr J G. Winant), and the Minister for Aircraft Production (Sir Archibald Sinclair). With Mrs Fraser, he visited the New Zealand section of the military cemetery at Broukwood, outside London. Among the graves they looked at was that of Brigadier Ardagh. This morning the Prime Minister made a formal call on the New Zealand Government offices in the Strand, where he was welcomed by the High Commissioner (Mr W. J. Jordan), and met the staffs of the various departments. He expressed gratitude for the work they had done and paid tribute to them for the way they had carried on during the London blitz. This evening Mr and Mrs Fraser are meeting a number of New Zealanders engaged here in newspaper and radio work.
