Bomb Italian Ports
(8.0. W.. 1.15 p.m.) RUGBY. May 22. The harbours of Porto Ferrajo (Elba) and Piombino—two of the “three sisters,” as Wellington crews call these two ports, and San Stefano —were bombed by Wellingtons in waves throughout darkness last night, says a Naples correspondent. A Spitfire squadron which last week-end destroyed seven Germans in one 24-hour period, went one better yesterday by shooting down eight of 20 bomb-carrying planes north of Anzio.
The squadron commander, SquadronLeader Neville Duke, was top-scoring fighter pilot in Ihe Mediterranean area. Yesterday he claimed two to bring his personal score to 26.
