Sheep Dog Trials Yield £l6O For Patriotic
As a result of the annual meeting of the Whangarei County Sheep Dog Trials Club, held at Maungakaramea last week, patriotic funds will benefit to the extent of approximately £l6O. This most satisfactory result, as the result of the club’s activities, was announced by the secretary (Mr. S. W. Crawford) today.
The following is the completed list of trophy and special prize awards at the meeting:
Ladies’ Challenge Cup, for local dogs scoring the highest percentage in any one event. —I Fraser’s Mack, 75 per cent.
Chase Cup, for winner of long head —A. T. Ariell’s Lad.
Milne Cup, for dog scoring second most points in short head. —A. T. Ariell’s Ben.
Close Cup, for champion dog of the meeting.—P. McKenzie’s Lofty Blomfield.
H. B. Sloane's Memorial Cup, for dog scoring most points in the two heading events. —P. McKenzie’s Lofty Blomfield.
Simmons’ Challenge Shield, for dog scoring most points at meeting.—P. McKenzie’s Lofty Blomfield. Whangarei County Huntaway Cup, for 'winner of Class 3, huntaway.—J. Studholme’s Boy. Farmers’ Trading Company Cup, for local maiden dog scoring most points in Classes 1 and 2.—1. Fraser’s Mack.
Special Prizes.—Leo Child's prize of £l/1/- for novice man and dog scoring most points in Classes 1 and 2: I. Fraser’s Mack. Leo Child’s prize of £l/1/- for competitor under 21 years, scoring most points at the meeting: E. Child. T. O’Shea’s prize of £2/2/- for maiden dog scoring most points in the two heading events: I. Fraser’s Mack. D. McLennan’s prize of £2 for dog owned by resident of Mangapai and Maungakaramea ridings scoring most points in the two heading events: G. Child's Jock.
Messrs. J. Massey. A. B. Millar, A. O’Neili, E. McConnell, A. Ariel! all guessed the correct weight of the three sheep, which was 158 lbs.
