G. Reid Wins Annual Harbour Swim Race

Competed by nine entrants, comprising boy and girl junior and intermediate swimmers, the annual harbour race of the Whangarei Amateur Swimming Club was held in the town basin late yesterday afternoon on a course over a mile in length. Only two swimmers failed to complete, one suffering from cramp and being picked up in midstream by a dinghy. Ten minutes separated the starting times of the first and last competitor. Off a handicap of 4rh. 305., G. Reid romped past the finishing line first after drawing into the lead early in the race, and retaining his position easily throughout. A comfortable overarm stroke gained him first place. G. Ealfour (2m. 10s.'» gained second place, and made the fastest time, and J. McDonald (705.) third. Time for the race was 36m. 50s. r
